BioLPG is a renewable and sustainable gas chemically identical to LPG. It's made from a blend of waste, residues and sustianably sourced materials - this means it has a much smaller carbon footprint than regular LPG. As it's chemically identical to LPG it is also compataible with all LPG products; BioLPG has no compromise on performance and is as energy efficient as LPG.

By whom and where is Calor's BioLPG produced?

Calor’s BioLPG is produced by Neste, the world leader in advanced biofuels, and is then supplied by us via Calor's parent company – SHV Energy. It is manufactured in a custom-built production unit in Rotterdam and is a co-product of the ground breaking NEXBTL biodiesel production process.

How is BioLPG made?

BioLPG is a co-product of the biodiesel production process. During manufacturing, the feedstocks undergo a series of complex treatments. They are combined with hydrogen in a process, called hydrogenolysis, which separates and purifies their energy content. During the refining process, a variety of waste ‘off-gases’ are produced that contain propane or BioLPG. For every tonne of biodiesel, 50 kg of BioLPG is generated from this off gas stream. This co-product is then purified to make it identical to conventional propane. And there you have it, the production of BioLPG.

My Green Gas Certification

We’re very committed to providing our customers with renewable energy solutions and it means a lot to us that you’re thinking about our greener future. Every drop of BioLPG is tracked; we add BioLPG to our existing LPG network and receive 'Green Gas credits' that we apply to each of our green customers. The more BioLPG that we add to our network, the more Green Gas credits we can offer for our customers. The Green Gas Certification Scheme ensures traceability of all green gas delivered to, and used up by our customers while also highlighting the amount of CO2 saved by all of our brilliant green customers.

Sustainable fuel for FLT & HGV
You may know that under the UK’s Carbon Reduction Commitment, your business will need to demonstrate a 20% saving in carbon emissions by 2020. But don’t worry – BioLPG will help you to achieve exactly that. Our sustainable energy source is International Sustainability and Carbon Certification scheme approved.2 Plus, BioLPG works just like conventional LPG so there's no need to change existing equipment, vehicles or supply infrastructure.

Alongside Calor's parent company, SHV Energy, Calor's ambition is for 100% of their energy products to be produced from renewable sources by 2040.
