Cylinders vs Bulk Tanks

Cylinders

Typically, caravan heating systems are powered by a bank of 2 or more 47kg cylinders. We deliver to mainland Shetland weekly. For more information on gas cylinders, getting started and our delivery service, click here.

Bulk Tanks

A bulk tank sits outside your property and provides a constant source of fuel to your gas system. When the tank needs refilled, our bulk gas tanker will come to your property to refill it. A 1200 litre bulk tank holds as much gas as roughly thirteen 47kg cylinders.

Bulk tanks

Above ground LPG storage tanks are installed on concrete surfaces. They provide the easiest bulk gas storage solution.

Tanks must be installed 3 metres away from buildings, and must be installed somewhere where we can access them for refilling.

We offer bulk tanks in 1200L size. A 1200L tank is roughly equivalent to thirteen 47kg propane cylinders.

Rearo Supplies has been installing bulk tanks for fifty years. For more information on the installation process, please phone us on 01595 692807 or email us at gas@rearo.co.uk.

Installation

Installing a telemetry device on a bulk tank allows for the volume of gas left in the tank to be monitored remotely on a mobile phone or computer. The devices give an accurate reading of your tank’s current level. It allows for alerts to be set up, sending you and us a notification when the tank reaches a specified level. This means you won’t run out of gas unexpectedly.

The telemetry devices also allow for your gas consumption to be tracked, giving you a better idea of your usage, refill frequency and costs.

The telemetry devices do not run on Wi-Fi and do not need an electrical connection.

Telemetry devices

Our tanker travels all over Shetland each week refilling both domestic and commercial bulk tanks. Our large bulk storage vessels at our Lerwick depot ensure that our propane supplies is consistent throughout the year, including during periods of disruption over winter.

Our tanker will visit your home during the working day, refill your tank, and we will then send you an invoice for the gas.

We also provide a regular tank delivery service, where we schedule visits to your home. This means you don’t need to phone in when your gas is low - we will know when you need your tank refilled and fill it accordingly. We can either invoice you each time your tank is filled or we can organise a monthly payment, giving you certainty and regularity when it comes to heating your home.

Getting your tank refilled

Bulk tanks have a lifespan of 20 years before they need refurbished. During their lifespan, bulk tanks require routine maintenance to ensure they are safe, compliant and working correctly.

Your quarterly bulk tank hire fee includes the fee for routine maintenance, upkeep and replacement of your bulk tank.
